IZZY FOREAL TRIES TO GO IT ALONE AT JAMIESON’S RESTAURANT

•July 9, 2008 • Leave a Comment

TO ALL TWEED GOLD COAST NORTHERN RIVERS MUSICIANS

FROM IZZY

Izzy Foreal may perform solo on Saturday, July 26 at his regular Jamieson’s Restaurant gig in the Panorama Plaza, Scenic Drive, West Tweed. If that happens, Izzy will be playing 6-string guitar all night, with his usual kazoo and vocal additions. This may not sound too remarkable for a performer who has been playing as long as Izzy, except for the fact that he is a bass-player and has only played guitar in front of a public audience a couple of times in his career – and never for three 45-minute sets! Izzy usually has another musician with him at Jamieson’s each Saturday night, because of his preferred role as a bass-player. He’s been warming up to this solo effort with an opening bracket on guitar over the last couple of Saturdays. To make things a bit easier for himself, Izzy is inviting any local Tweed & Northern Rivers musicians / performers to come along and join in for the fun of it. As well as taking the pressure off for the night, this will give Izzy a chance to check out the local talent, so that he can widen his options for future ‘duo’ nights at Jamieson’s.

IF YOU THINK YOU FIT IN THE SCENES BELOW – COME ALONG

LISMORE AND KATE JAI VISIT 034

Not shaping up too  unkindly as yet.  The weather that is . Last Saturday June 29 saw visitors from Sydney, Brisbane and Bellingen. Big Lads they breed in these regions. The new menu is working well. The Gourmet Pizzas received many compliments and the High tower burger was a hit.  Thats Kati B and her IMM. Behind her is Sean down from Brisbane and Cowboy on the right has joined the Bilambilean culture – and moved into the HEIGHTS. They tell me he can play guitar too.

Saturday July 5 2008 sees SCRUBBY back with Iz. These 2 seasoned musos and performers have been playing together for a year or 2 now and combine  talents and personalities in a unique and ‘entertaining’ semi  accoustic Cafe Vibe.

Looks Like Izzy will have an old Zarsoff with him on the 26th. RORY ZARSOFF is scheduled to join him for the Saturday Night and they promise a semi0accoustic Zarsoffian effect modified – Chick has never seen live Zarsoffs and don’t know that she wants to. This however will be a professional and lively night.

Other Friends of Izzy for July include Pete Lawson and the Bloke.

NEW MENU AT JAMOZE

•June 15, 2008 • Leave a Comment

jamoze 007Now this was GOOD ! The night was cold but the greeting was warm. Renee had been at work setting up the tables and they looked warm and welcoming with the 2 big heaters burning outside and candles on each table. The Chick LOVED it. Izzy LOVED it  and Scrubby LOVED it.  Next good thing – A NEW MENU. Wendy’s immaculate chalkboard writing informed us clearly that THE BUFFET WAS BACK.  A simple and sweet buffet. And a fine and varied new menu.  The night was looking good.

” This is a good read ” said Iz.

jamoze menu 2 001

Felt like old times.  Wendy and Renee were on duty which guarantees service.  Renee is taking care of her man Brad, who is home after knee reconstruction. Best wishes to Brad.  Scrubby Pete Hurcombe of  HILLBILLY BLUES BANDITS was Izzy’s Guest last night. Chick and Scrub were rugged up against the cold but Izzy doesn’t seem to feel it. One of the very nice  evenings it turned out to be. Chick went for The Indonesian rice with its elusive  sweetness and a side of garlic turkish bread followed by the sticky toffee pudding with icecream and cream.  Jamoze was up against it last night with the cold weather and a pizza oven out of action but Justin and Ben came through remarkably well. Scrubby and Izzy have been performing together now since 2006 and Izzy has been playing with Scrubby in HILLBILLY BLUES BANDITS since late 2007. This has led to a maturing of this duo-ing which was at the forefront last night. Humour, subtlety and good musicianship warmed the night and diners were moved to whisper – ” beautiful” as well as giving several songs a thumbs up.  A large birthday table braved the chill through till the Birthday Cake . Their combined children were toe tapping and dancing along causing Scrubby to describe Iz as THE BLACK WIGGLE. Now there’s a thought !

Chick notices too on the menu that they have a 2 4 1 TUESDAYS – noone told her about that before.  The new lunch specials include a daily roast at $7.50.  Jamoze has broken the day into 3 segments – well like the rest of the world really – breakfast lunch and dinner. I think it just might work. I could handle a mixed berry compote with yoghurt and toasted muesli for breakfast . Indeed I could. Return for a vegie burger at lunch and then back in for singapore noodles at dinnertime sounds good to me.

Daytime eaters have the advantage of the other shops in PANORAMA PLAZA being open. This gives them DOCTORS, REAL ESTATE AT RAINBOW BAY REALTY , BOTTLE SHOP (DAY AND NIGHT ) , BAKERY (AWARD WINNING ), CHEMIST, BUTCHERY, HAIRDRESSER, TAKE-AWAY AND THEN CHICK’S FAVOURITE GROCERY STORE AND NEWSAGENT ( WELL PANORAMA AND BILAMBIL POST OFFICE STORE ARE HER FAVOURITES) . Panorama Plaza Grocery has GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD STOCK AND  A SECOND HAND BOOK STAND AT FRONT. It sells hand made cards – made by a mysterious lady somewhere in the estate near SEAGULLS. They are UNIQUE and chick rarely buys any other for her gifts. It stocks FISHERMANS FRIENDS and the ladies on duty do a bit of teasing about their addictive nature. In the fridge  for variations on the Jamieson’s theme are CHETS THAI TAKE AWAYS which pretty well fed the Chick before Izzy came along to feed her and desserts cooked on the premises as well as other main courses . RICE PUDDING and this week BREAD AND BUTTER PUDDING.  Bought 3 this week and they’re pretty well eaten. This little shopping centre covers all bases . Community shopping centres once did that and PANORAMA still does even to the 2 Staffie dogs who sneak in unoffically and emerge from the Grocery store with a schmacko or two. They try for Saturday Night at Jamoze as well but the Kazoo can generally send them home pretty quick smart.

BLOKE’S NEPHEW DAN COMES TO VISIT WITH HIS LADY KERRI

•April 13, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Weather excellent and Jamieson’s fully booked. So Booked that Dan and Kerri had to squeeze in at the Muso’s table and then Jan and Johnny Carr were added to the 4 seater. Izzy went out back to inveigle the kitchen lads into handing over one of their outdoor chairs . Chick isn’t quite so happy without Michael’s Indian Curries but the Green Supreme Pizza is pretty Good. Jan was well  pleased with her Beef Curry. Dan and Kerri were up from the Illawarra to visit The Bloke . Kerri was sitting taking in the view of the Medical Centre when she started up – The Doctor’s name on the window was HER SISTER. Kerri knew she was on Tweed but didn’t expect to locate her at the Panorama tucked away in West Tweed.

RAINY AND COOL

•April 5, 2008 • Leave a Comment

This week Izzy had Bloke and Pete Lawson with him. In fact he didn’t have a lot more than Bloke Pete Lawson and Chick in Blundstones due to the sudden arrival of rain and cold. For those of you not as yet acquainted with the Jamieson’s ethos , this is just the beginning. This is the weather to bring out the Foreal Addicts. Winter 2007 saw the Crowds booking ahead and lingering after the 9.30 pm finishing line. Winter 2007 saw them bringing their own chairs and rugs and on one occasion at least their own folding table.

This week however – the weather sneaked up on us. Combined with football at Skilled Stadium in Robina for the Titans’ 2nd season and things were a little quiet. They were quiet The Easter
Saturday of 2007 and a little low key for Australia Day – but otherwise things are BUSY at Jamoze on Saturday Nights. Last night we had the rare species of Indoor Diner as well . Not something that’s often seen here in West Tweed on a Saturday Night. The rain was coming in at a sinister angle. Water was torrenting down the drainpipes and puddling around feet but The Border Dwellers of Tweed can handle that.

Izzy had 2 friends last night – which is about a quarter of his present supply. The Bloke – is an OLD friend. They’ve been playing together on and off for 40 years which is worth coming to see of itself. Now they form the Band PASPALUM with Pete Lawson who was with them last night. Pete had a stool with him. He built it himself 10 years or so back. Tiring work it is playing with Paspalum.

Renee was on duty last night. She is one top waitperson. Astute and quick . She had Chick’s lemon drink on the table while Chick was still looking the Fridge trying to locate the Bottle and Izzy’s Mug O Cino not much later. Her smile warms the wettest , coolest of nights and so does the Sticky Toffee pudding she knows the Chick Loves and once again – had it ready without even needing to be asked.

Kati B rings most Saturday Nights from Kalang and listens to some music over the phone. Then Chick calls Armidale to see how the Mad O’Brians are going. Being an Ancient Groupie has some empty moments. Last night when she called Armidale Little Jo told her about their phone being out. 2 weeks at least before its fixed and Telstra is sending them an army base satellite fone same as Izzy and Chick had. Interim they call it. Seems to be no technicians left to fix things. Now they need CONTRACTORS who take a long time to come and don’t know how to fix things either. So they talked a while on adjoining mobiles while the lads played on.

Saturday nights are Izzy Foreal’s nights and he has a selection of guests – various friends of his. This week his focus was on his PASPALUM comrades as the launch of the De-Beaut CD STICKY GRASS PUDDING comes very close. In May , they head north to WINTERMOON Festival in North Queensland with CDs in hand. There is a rumour that a privileged Jamoze Incrowd just might be invited to a sneak Launch and Pre-Listen in April with CDs for sale .

IZZY SAYS – disappointingly small crowd but the weather was agin us. However it was a good opportunity for the 3 Paspalum members to run through the material for their new album

Chick ordered the Supreme Green Pizza. She’s missing Michael’s Curries and the Buffet but seemingly they have been phased out . Gourmet Pizza it is then. Managing to eat an entire small one by herself too. Perhaps not something to boast about but they are FINE pizzas. And you know – even with the weather ” agin us ” – people were still there after 9.30 pm and some toes were tapping. We managed to record Sticky Grass Pudding on the Camera. So you can hunt down a video on Izzy Foreal and Friends Facebook Group. New Members always welcome. And next week – we will be back with our Jamoze regulars and mebbe some new fans or “punters” as the Bands call them and Customers as the Restaurants call them – will be there. Its a good place is Jamoze.

HELLO JAMIESONS

•March 1, 2008 • Leave a Comment

A fine night to begin Autumn. Izzy with special guest Scrubby played to a full house. In fact one folding chair was brought in to take the one guest too many and the Musos were one chair short. First of March and we had Peter and Karen up from Sydney for their 28th wedding anniversary . Dwayne turning 25 and Mark and Scrubby with birthdays this week. The weather was delightful . Not a commonly stated statement this Summer.

Izzy asked for LIVE KARAOKE and this time we had a volunteer. Nigel from Launceston. Nigel has done a degree in Performing Arts and was at Jamoze with his sister and brother-in-law. He joined Scrub and Iz for AINT NO SUNSHINE WHEN SHES GONE and FLIP FLOP AND FLY. Well done Nigel !

Peter and Karen were up visiting from Sydney. They has the table tucked in behind the Musos with Bob and Sue. Now Bob is the new chef from Bilambil Sports Club. The one who is putting on the Vegetarian Options and who did the Bread and Butter Pudding which Chick thought the best she had ever tasted . In fact she did more than taste it. She ate the lot. Lacking an appropriate anniversary song , the Boys treated Bob and Sue and the visiting Anniversarians to THE BOMB HIT. A song Izzy wrote for family visitors.

Happy Holidays Peter and Sue.

Dwayne filled a table of 20 or more for his 25th – knocked back the offer of Live karaoke – leaving Scrubby to woo him with
